Ree Couzens
Background
My name is Ree Couzens. I am a proud Nhanda-Wajarri woman, born and raised in Carnarvon on Yinggarda Country. My family connections and ties to country are the Kalbarri and Murchison River areas, with my lineage tracing back to Granny Jilba, one of the six apical ancestors of the Nhanda region.
Under the guidance of my Uncle Dougie Ryder, I began painting as a child, learning through his teachings and developing a strong connection to culture through art. I feel honoured to have learnt directly from him and continue to carry his legacy through my work.
My paintings reflect Country, expressing my deep connection to the land and sea, shaped by the places that hold our stories.
