The Artist Says:
This artwork reflects this year’s NAIDOC Week theme - 50 Years of Deadly!
At the centre of the piece sits a circle holding the knowledge, strength, wisdom, and stories of our people, a reflection of 50 Years of Deadly! It forms the heart of the work, with connections extending throughout the canvas, showing how everything ties back to culture, Country, and what continues to be carried forward.
The animal tracks move across the canvas, linking back to the centre circle and showing the flow across Country, grounding everything back to that core place. Also tied in are the elements representing men and women, showing how culture is carried, shared, and kept strong across generations.
The colours I have used are drawn from my Country, reflecting the land and sea that ground this work and hold our stories.
This piece speaks to continuity. Our culture and connection to Country have always remained strong, carried through who we are and how we stay connected to each other.
